Mica Flex
Workshop for Mica Flex
Mica Flex is an additive used in resin art to create stunning and eye-catching shimmer and sparkle effects. It consists of fine mica particles that reflect light, giving a beautiful pearlescent or metallic appearance to your resin artwork. Here’s how to use Mica Flex in resin art:
Materials you’ll need:
1. Epoxy resin and hardener
2. Mica Flex powder (in the color of your choice)
3. Mixing cups and stir sticks
4. Silicone molds or a flat surface (for creating the resin artwork)
5. Disposable gloves and a well-ventilated workspace
6. Heat gun or torch (to remove air bubbles)
Step-by-step process:
1. Prepare the workspace:
Ensure you have a clean and well-ventilated area to work in. Cover your working surface with a plastic drop cloth or wax paper to protect it from resin spills.
2. Mixing the resin:
Follow the instructions on the epoxy resin packaging to mix the resin and hardener in the correct ratio. Mix the components thoroughly but slowly to minimize the formation of air bubbles.
3. Adding Mica Flex powder:
Divide the mixed resin into separate cups. Add a small amount of Mica Flex powder to one of the cups. The amount of Mica Flex you add will depend on how intense you want the shimmer effect to be. You can add more Mica Flex for a stronger shimmer or less for a subtle sparkle.
4. Mixing the Mica Flex:
Stir the Mica Flex powder into the resin thoroughly until it is fully dispersed and there are no clumps.
5. Pouring the resin:
Carefully pour the resin with Mica Flex into the silicone molds or on the flat surface. If you want to create layered effects with different colors of Mica Flex, you can pour multiple layers, allowing each layer to partially cure before adding the next.
6. Removing air bubbles:
Use a heat gun or torch to remove any air bubbles that may have formed on the surface of the resin. Move the heat source gently over the resin, and the bubbles should disappear.
7. Curing the resin:
Allow the resin to cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This may take several hours or more, depending on the type of resin used.
8. Demolding (if using silicone molds):
Once the resin has fully cured, carefully demold the shimmering resin pieces from the silicone molds.
